Halloween has returned to Pokemon GO with what seems to be a larger event than the last. This year, the Pokemon GO Halloween Mischief event brings double the trouble and double the fun! Niantic seems to be splitting this year’s events into two, half for the first week of the latter half of October, and the other half of the event will take place in the week leading up to Halloween itself. So, let’s dive in and see what’s going on for Halloween this year!
Entire Event: 10/15-10/31
From Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10am local time to Sunday, October 31, at 8pm local time, the following will be available:
The Season of Mischief Story Continues
If you’ve been in app recently, you’ve seen the season of mischief story. Make sure to complete the special research story that comes with this event in order to have an encounter with Hoopa. This event also brings more wild spawning Psychic, Ghost, and Dark-type Pokemon, and some new encounters with Pokemon making their Pokemon GO Debut! The following also continue to apply during the season of mischief event:
- Seasonal Pokemon found in the Wild
- Seasonal Pokemon hatching from Eggs
- Misunderstood Mischief Special Research Available
- 3x XP for visitng PokeStops for the first time
- Guaranteed Gifts from PokeStop spins
- Boosted damage for Trainers battling remotely in raids
- Increased Incense effectiveness
- Increased Incense effictiveness while walking
- Buddy will bring you items more often
- 2x Lure Module duration
Halloween Cup
The Halloween Cup makes its return to the GO Battle League. You can find more information on that here.
Special and Timed Research
What Lies beneath the Mask? A Special Research story will be available. We’ll be creating a raid guide for this shortly. This special research revolves around Yamask, and other timed research will be available.

Lavender Town Music

The Special Research Story, Season of Mischief will unlock during this time. If you complete this special research, you’ll get access to an encounter with Hoopa at the end of the event.
Galarian Slowking
As predicted in our previous post, Galarian Slowking is making its debut in Pokemon GO! We anticipated raid availability, however, Galarian Slowpoke will now evolve into Galarian Slowking by having Slowpoke as your buddy and catching 30 psychic-type Pokemon. This is now a permanent change and will continue to be available after the event ends.

Pokemon GO Halloween Part 2: Ghoulish Pals

Here comes the second part of the Halloween event! Ghost types will appear more often, Debuts from Pumpkaboo and Phantump will take place, along with Gourgeist and Trevenant.
Season of Mischief Special Research
Part two of the special research will unlock during this time! You’ll gain access to a special event featuring Hoopa for completing this. This research will include the debut of Phantump and Pumpkaboo.
Sizing is Released for New Pokemon
Along with new pokemon making their debut, sizing will begin in Pokemon Go, where larger Pokemon will look larger in the game! You’ll see this first with Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist.
