Pokemon GO is up to something and until we know what that something is, we’ll just have to enjoy the rewards.
As more and more companies in the world are shifting to AR (augmented reality), Niantic is in hot pursuit. The ability to scan Pokestops has always been an option in the game, and we’ve seen it pop up in field research many times. However, if you’re like me, you probably have left that field research sitting for almost a year.
Now, you’re being rewarded to scan Pokestops with Powered-Up Pokestops. As an incentive for users level 20+ to do AR scans of stops, more rewards are available to users who do, and then spin these stops. Extra rewards are available for the following tiers:
- Level 1: 5 scans
- Level 2: 10 scans
- Level 3: 25 scans
These scanning abilities are temporary, but you’ll get more items given to you for spinning Pokestops that are powered-up, so take advantage of this while you can.
Scanning Pokestops takes about 20-30 seconds, and has some requirements, such as not scanning in the dark, moving your camera too much, or your stop being out of focus. You can find out more about AR mapping on Pokemon Go by clicking here.
