Genesect is a bug/steel type Mythical Pokèmon introduced in Generation 5. While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, Genesect has four other forms, which are activated by inserting the Drive in the cannon on its back. The Drive is visibly different within its sprites and gains different forms of the move, ‘Techno Blast’ depending on the Drive it is holding.

Yellow- Shock drive, Electric type Techno Blast. (Debuting now)

Blue- Douse drive, Water type Techno Blast.

Red- Burn drive, Fire type Techno Blast.

Genesect Shock Drive Counters Guide
Created by PGR Admin, Raz.

Since it is a Bug/Steel type, its only weakness is Fire, which does double super effective damage against Genesect! While it is always recommended to get as many trainers to beat a raid, Genesect is a very easy boss and is an easy trio, and can even be duo’d with the correct counters! So don’t worry if you can’t fill up your raid.

Let’s go through a few counters Below:

Reshiram

With Reshiram being in raids recently, this is a fairly accessible Pokemon, and is the best Non-mega counter to Genesect, with access to Fire fang and Overheat, and having a Dragon/Fire typing, it resists almost all of Genesects moves!

Heatran

It was in raids right before Shock Drive Genesect, making it super accessible for trainers to use, it has access to fire spin and flame thrower, it is bound to do a good chunk of damage to Genesect.

Mega Pokèmon

The best Mega pokemon to use against Genesect, is Mega Charizard Y and Mega Charizard X, both having access to Fire Spin and Blast Burn (Legacy), they are ranked the number 1 & 2 counters for Genesect respectively! Mega Houndoom with Fire Fang and Flamethrower is also a great counter.

Shadow

The shadow variants of Entei with Fire Fang and Overheat, Moltres with Fire Spin and Overheat, and Charizard with Fire Spin and Blast Burn(Legacy), all serve as amazing counters to Genesect!

Budget

If you don’t have any of the above listed Pokèmon, don’t worry! Since Genesect is a very easy raid boss, almost any Pokèmon with a fire typing and moveset serves as a great counter to it, for example: Charizard, Typhlosion, Moltres, Blaziken etc.
You can also use the search string “fire and @fire” and filter by CP to find good counters.
