Mega Aerodactyl makes Pokemon GO Debut – Raid Guide

Mega Aerodactyl makes Pokemon GO Debut was written by POGORaiders Moderator, Kong.

Background

Aerodactyl is a fossil Pokemon, that can be resurrected using an Old Amber – a fossil item, that has the power to transform into an Aerodactyl. However, most Aerodactyl are known to go berserk and cause destruction and chaos on their resurrection!

Aerodactyl can be Mega Evolved into Mega Aerodactyl by using a Mega stone known as the Aerodactylite.

Mega Aerodactyl will be the first Rock type mega released in Pokemon Go, and a powerful one at that! It sits at the top of DPS charts just below Rampardos and is a fantastic pick to add to your Rock type arsenal. The access to a great move-set and good stats will instantly catapult it to the Rock type throne in the game, until more powerful shadows or Megas are released.

Availability

Mega Aerodactyl will be released as a Mega Raid on January 7th, 2022 at 10am local time and is available through February 1st, 2022.. It’s CP can range from:

1515 – 1590 CP at Level 20, no weather boost
1894 – 1988 CP at Level 25 with Partly Cloudy or Windy weather boost

Counters

Mega Aerodactyl has a dual Rock/Flying typing giving it weaknesses to Rock, Ice, Electric, Water and Steel types. Let’s dive into a few of the best counters!

Mega Pokemon

Aerodactyl is weak to a wide plethora of Mega Pokemon including itself. Out of these, the best counters are Mega Blastoise (with Water Gun/Hydro Cannon), Mega Gyarados (with Waterfall/Hydro Pump), Mega Manectric (with Thunder Fang/Wild Charge) and Mega Abomasnow (with Powder Snow/Weather Ball)

Metagross

This fearsome, arachnid looking steel robot is a great counter to Mega Aerodactyl. It dishes out amazing damage while resisting all of Aerodactyl charge moves except Earth Power. Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash is the recommended move-set, and both the shadow and normal version work amazingly!

Zekrom

The Dragon of Ideals is another great counter to this Mega. With great overall stats and a good move-set (Charge Beam and Wild Charge), this Deep Black dragon can’t wait to shock some Aerodactyl. Moves to watch out for are again, Earth Power.

Kyogre

This legendary whale, lord of the seas is yet another great counter. With a solid move-set of Waterfall and Surf, this Pokémon is a solid choice for your battle party. An added bonus is that it doesn’t take super effective damage from any of the charged or fast moves!

Rhyperior

Access to one of the best Rock type moves in the game, namely Rock Wrecker makes this angry looking rhino another viable option. Smack Down and Rock Wrecker paired with decent bulk allow it to dish out large amounts of damage. As with many other counters, you may have to watch out for Earth Power if the raid boss you’re raiding has it as a move.

Budget Counters

Don’t have access to powerful megas and legendaries? Fear not, as there are a ton of excellent budget counters! Some of these include Electivire, Magnezone, Mamoswine, Tyranitar, Empoleon, Samurott and Swampert.

With all these Pokemon, try to use move-sets that deal super effective damage and benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus).

Happy Raiding!
