Heatran returns to Raids – Raid Guide was written by POGORaiders Moderator, Darkrai.

Heatran, the fire/steel type legendary Pokémon will be returning to raids on 7th January 10am Local time.

Introduced in Generation 4, it is known as the Lava Dome pokemon. It dwells in volcanic caves and its body is made of rugged steel, with partially melted spots due to its own heat. They say that Heatran has the power to erupt the volcanic craters where it resides.

Heatran, along with its shiny form, will be available in raids from 7th January 10am Local time to 15th January 10am Local time.

– Since it is a fire/steel type, Heatran will be boosted in Sunny and Snowy weather!
– Its 100% IV is 2145 (Non Boosted) and 2681(Boosted).
– The odds of getting a shiny Heatran is 1/20.

Heatran is weak to Ground, Water and Fighting. The best counters must have ground type moves, as it does double super effective damage against Heatran. The chart above has a variety of counters to choose from. Let’s dive into a few:

The dragon/ground type pseudo legendary pokemon is ideally the best counter to Heatran, with access to mudshot as its fast move, and Earth Power as its charged move (Which you could get during Gible Community Day) It deals double super effective damage to Heatran.

This ground/rock pokemon has access to Mud Slap and Earthquake with both being very hard hitting ground type moves, it is a great counter to Heatran.

This pure ground type legendary pokemon is said to be the personification of the land itself. Legends tell of its many clashes against Kyogre, as each sought to gain the power of nature. It has access to Mud Shot and Earthquake. It can charge up, and deal damage quickly.

Mega Evolved Pokemon

Unfortunately, Megas are not recommended against Heatran as it is double weak to ground type moves, and the only ground-boosting mega, Mega Steelix, Is not an effective counter for it.

If you don’t have any of the best counters listed, don’t worry! As there are plenty of budget counters that work great. Rhydon, Golurk, Golem, Swampert, Donphan and Mamoswine are some great budget counters.

The best moveset for all of these is Mud Slap or Mud Shot for fast moves, and Earthquake, Earth Power and Bulldoze for charged moves.
